One child left to fend for herself in a flooded London, another hoping to change the world in a dystopian future. This is The Rising Storm, the exciting first book in the Paradigm Trilogy.
Meet Alice, a young girl struggling to survive in the inner city tower block that she hates, rescued from the end of the world by The Community, which offers her a new family, a new life and an opportunity to create a new world out of the ashes of the old one.
100 years later, Carter, a teenage boy living in the world that Alice created, sets his sights on becoming the next leader of the Community.
This is an engaging dystopian novel, told from the duel perspectives of Alice and Carter. The characters are three dimensional and compelling. Both the fall of civilisation and the future world that rises from it are believable. I enjoyed the layers to the plot and the different moral dilemmas that the story brought up. The characters were not always sympathetic, but the reasons for their behaviour was always understandable.
I look forward to reading the other books in the trilogy. I think this YA book would appeal to fans of The Hunger Games and the Divergent series.
I award The Rising Storm…
