Benny Rose The Cannibal King by Hailey Piper

An unputdownable horror novel that satisfies on every level.

The tiny town of Blackwood has only one boogie man. Benny Rose, the cannibal king, who perished in a fire and returns every Halloween to eat unwary children alive.

When good friends Desiree, Jesse and Sierra plan a Halloween prank on new girl, Gabrielle, little to they know that before the night is out they will come face to face with the cannibal king himself.

The description doesn’t do this novel justice. Part of Unnerving publications Rewind or Die series, the action takes place in the 1980s. I could see this story being a movie from the 1980s too, an enduring cult classic because it’s so good.

Piper’s writing is effortless, pulling you into the story and making you care for the characters, which makes the ramping tension and horror all the more effective.

All the characters are great, but Desiree is my favorite. She loves her friends, is not a stranger to suffering and she uses her head throughout the terryifying Halloween night.

It’s great to see a depiction of female friendship that is so realistic and positive.

As for Benny Rose. I don’t want to spoil it, but he is so much more interesting than his title implies.

Scary, exciting, emotional and extremely satisfying, I award Benny Rose…
