Advent Ghosts 2021

In the spirit of the Victorian tradition of telling spooky Christmas stories, Loren Eaton’s Advent Ghosts challenges participants to write a Christmas themed scary drabble (a story of 100 words).

Now, without further ado, my story…

The Ghosts of Christmas

Maggie found it impossible to watch television when the partying ghosts gyrated between her and the screen.

Clad in gaudy festive jumpers, some of the women wreathed in tinsel and flashing bauble earrings, the revelers filled her small house with their silent laughing, dancing and drinking.

A young, mulleted, Uncle Don pursued guests with mistletoe dangling in front of his face.

“I don’t care where you go, but you can’t stay here,” Maggie shouted.

Her five year old self, hugging a brand new Cabbage Patch doll, turned to look at her.

“Are you the ghost of Christmas yet to come?”
