If I were a rich woman…

The Bloganuary prompt for today is:

If you had a billion US dollars, how would you spend it?

I’m not going to spend a lot of time thinking about this, because it’s so improbable, but off the top of my head:

  • I’d immediately give at least half to charity.
  • I’d give several million to family and friends.
  • I’d set up writing scholarships.
  • I’d buy Horse Island and move there, turning part of the island into an epic writing retreat that is free to attend (I’m thinking scholarship or lottery for getting a place).
  • I’d hire people to look after marketing and publishing my books so I only had to write.
  • I’d invest the rest so I could live comfortably for the remainder of my life.

If you had a billion US dollars, how would you spend it?

  1. Sounds like a great plan! I will certainly come to Horse Island for a writing retreat – it sounds amazing! I like all your plans, I’d also like to make a movie of The Lucky Diamond, the movie-tie in is always a great way to boost sales! Not sure how much that would cost but I think a billion dollars should cover it! 🙂

      1. You got that right. And maybe someday, if not rich, then I’ll be able to make a living writing full time. For now, though, I’ll just be happy I have a good job that pays well (actually just got a raise), pay my mortgage, and sing “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof every now and then.

      2. I’ve been singing that song all day!

Congrats on the raise! Yay! It’s hard to make enough money from writing to live on, but I’m sure you can do it, Rami. I look forward to the day you can leave your job to be a full time author. 😈
