Book Review: Little Drummer Boy by Joel Spriggs

Preternatural detective, Hemlock Connal and her intern, Morgan Burns, return in another tale of magic and murder.

Hemlock and Burns are busy researching a case when they hear a strange drumming sound on the street. Turns out the only way to control zombies is with a drumbeat, so Hemlock and Burns follow the little drummer boy and his march of zombies through a magic portal to find out what nefarious deeds are going down.

Soon the intrepid detective and her intern are neck deep in organ harvesting, drug dealing and vice. Will either of them get out alive?

“Little Drummer Boy” is as imaginative and humorous as the duo’s first outing, if disappointingly much shorter.

I love Hemlock and Burns, and I would have liked to spend more time with them. I have a thing for zombies, so the thought of them being controlled by a drum strikes me as both genius and incredibly creepy. This is a great follow up to “Another Dead Intern”. My only gripe is that I wish it was longer.
